AI in Elevators?
You Need a Doctor, Not a Surveyor

Published: September 2025 | Category: Artificial Intelligence

Everyone is talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI) today. Manufacturers compete in adding "intelligent" features to their devices. But what does a "smart elevator" really mean? Is it just a marketing gimmick or real technology bringing measurable benefits? The answer depends on a fundamental question: Who and how "teaches" the elevator to think?

The Problem: AI Fed with Scraps of Information

Imagine trying to diagnose a complex disease. We have two possibilities:

The Surveyor:

Hands the patient a form and asks a dozen questions from a list: "Do you have a fever? Does your throat hurt?". Collects simple "yes/no" answers. Has no access to blood test results, ECG, or the patient's medical history. His diagnosis is superficial – based on simple, externally reported symptoms.

The Doctor-Diagnostician:

Conducts an interview but simultaneously listens to the patient, analyzes laboratory test results, checks pulse and blood pressure. Sees the entire, complex picture – from the cellular level to general well-being. Understands how individual organs affect each other. His diagnosis is thorough because it is based on the full biological context.

In the elevator industry, most companies operate like "surveyors". They assemble their control systems from ready-made, closed components from various suppliers (inverter, controller, cabin controller, diagnostic device). These components communicate with each other but don't share their internal "health status".

Any diagnosis or guidance regarding such a system must, by nature, be superficial.

The Solution: Full Insight into the Elevator's "Organism"

At SterDźwig, from the very beginning, we adopted the philosophy of the "doctor-diagnostician". We are not an "assembler". We design and manufacture the entire "nervous system" of the elevator – from the smallest electronic modules, through software and main controller logic, to the control cabinet, installations, and documentation of the entire control system.

Thanks to this, our emerging AI platform will not guess. It will know.

Epochal Change: Once No One Could Read the Entire Patient Chart. Today AI Can Do It.

Someone might ask: "If full system knowledge is so important, why wasn't this difference decisive 5-10 years ago?"

The answer is simple: due to human limitations.

Even the best service technician would be overwhelmed trying to simultaneously analyze electronic schematics of 20 modules, review thousands of lines of software code, and correlate this with mechanical data. The amount of information is too large for a human to process effectively. In practice, both we and "assemblers" operated at a similar, simplified level of diagnostics. Our deep knowledge of elevator "physiology" remained largely untapped potential.

Today, a player enters the scene who doesn't succumb to information overload: Artificial Intelligence.

AI can analyze the complete technical documentation of each module in a fraction of a second, relate it to historical data from thousands of other installations, and find patterns invisible to the human eye.

This is precisely why our role and advantage are growing exponentially today. Only now has a "mind" appeared that can fully utilize access to data we have always possessed. And this is the herald of a completely new, unknown maintenance model. A model where one service technician will be able to handle a significantly larger number of objects, and the work of a service technician will require fewer technical competencies than today. It will be more accessible.

What Does This Mean for You? Choosing Architecture is Choosing a Business Model for the Future.

Choosing a control equipment supplier today is much more than comparing prices. It's a decision about which of two realities your company will function in 3-5 years from now:

The "Surveyor" Reality:

  • Your maintenance model remains unchanged
  • You still face growing problems with the availability of qualified workers
  • The limit of devices per team remains
  • Every attempt to implement intelligent functions is blocked by "black boxes" in the system
  • You get defeated by competitors who joined the technological revolution at the right time

The "Doctor-Diagnostician" Reality:

  • You open the door to the AI revolution
  • You invest in a platform that will allow you to fundamentally change your way of operation
  • You optimize your operational costs
  • You really solve the problem of labor shortage
  • You defeat the competition by offering cheaper and more efficient maintenance

The future is already close. The question is: will you be part of it?

The difference between superficial diagnostics and deep system knowledge will be crucial in the coming AI era. By choosing SterDźwig, you're not just choosing technology – you're choosing the business model of the future.
